This book has nine "discoveries" to illustrate interesting phenomena like static electricity, magnetism, and the properties of common foods. It is very nicely organized with one photographed "experiment" per page. Additionally there is a fold-out flap which gives more information ("...the facts behind the fun...") for the adult to expand the learning.
There is a good introduction page stating the objective ("...let's find out about the world you live in. You can be a great detective if you look for clues, ask questions, and try to answer them. Carry a notebook to make drawings and to write down your thoughts. Have a box for collecting things..."), as well as a glossary and shopping list at the end. The photos are of preschool children but the learning opportunities would be fun through ages 7-8 years.
The book itself is hardcover with heavy cardboard pages which could be lightly wiped if necessary. The price is reasonable for the educational and fun provided.
Also see the companion book by the same author, I'm a Scientist: Backyard.

This is by far the best children's educational book both me and my wife have read (and there have been MANY). The impact made from the activities has been amazing and the kids can't wait for the next lesson. A must have for parents with young children.
