I was thrilled to have found yet-unpublished information about some of the top textile designers of the mid-20th century, as well as new information about the manufacturers. We hate to name drop, but this beautiful book features the top manufacturers and designers of kitchen towels from the 1930s to the 1960s! (More customer reviews)Excuse the enthusiasm, but Spiffy Kitchen Collectibles is an amazing book. It's accurate, informative and beautiful. And on top of that, it's a hoot. Filled with more than 1,000 full-color pictures of kitchen gadgets of all kinds, the book is part identification guide, part price guide and part stroll down memory lane. Covering Post World War II kitchen ware, the book includes hundreds of period magazine advertisements, helping to put the collectibles in context. Visually, it's brilliant. Some of the pictures are small but that's only because there are so many included. You don't have to be a collector to enjoy this book. But if you are, you'll find the book handier than an Ecko egg beater. Buy it. Read it. Enjoy.

(More customer reviews)I'm the type of person who sees merit in every movie I've ever seen...there's never been a bad one made. I'm the same about books and to say this is the worst one ever took a lot of doing! As a buyer and seller of mid-century kitchenware, I'm always looking for new insights; Some history, some timeline, some idetification. This book definitely doesn't have it.
There is absolutely no text, not one word. When were the pieces made? Who knows? Who made them? Many, if not most, do not indicate a manufacturer, which makes me think it was shoddily researched and just thrown together. I will say the photography is excellant, but if the authors wanted to put out a coffee table book, they could have at least oversized it and made it a hard cover. Unless you're looking for pretty pictures, I'd leave this one on the shelf.
