(More customer reviews)This is one of the better dessert cookbooks I own. I have made several items and especially liked the Almond Scented White Cake topped with raspberries. Make it and you will be the hit and envy of any party to which you take it. Other greats include: Gingerbread with Crystallized Ginger, Hazelnut-Raspberry Torte and the Chocolate Chip Banana cupcakes. If you love to bake and like to impress, this book is for you.

Fun with Kids in the Kitchen, Spiral Review

(More customer reviews)This is a very appealing cookbook for kids. Right off the bat my children were attracted to it because of the humorous, cartoon-like drawings that are sprinkled throughout. It is very easy to read and the recipes simple to do. Finally, the book is bound within a spiral notebook style so it can lay flat and is easy to handle. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a simple, starter cookbook for their budding chef!
Following a cute section entitled All About Me, come Steps to Good Health and Kitchen Safety. The recipes are separated by categories. They include: Fun with Fruit, Nuts and Bolts, Bread, Grains and Stuff, Vegetable Parade and Vegetarian Delights. It ends with Cloudy Day Fun which gives lots of neat ideas like pudding fingerpaints and making a chef's hat!
Each recipe is only one page long so it is easy to read and nicely spaced. Every page is illustrated with bright colors and humorous characters that depict the recipe. The author has done an exceptional job in laying out the recipe! A new reader could even follow along. First, there is always a cartoon guy carrying a sign saying "Adult Help Needed" if it applys. Then the author outlines each recipe in this clever pattern: READ the recipe, READY-get your cooking tools, SET the ingredients, GO-follow the directions! Finally she gives the cook some cute serving ideas.
This cookbook is just like what it's title implies...a lot of FUN! Any child interested in cooking vegetarian would enjoy using this cookbook. The recipes are easy to read, simple to do and offer a lot of success!

Because I have very little in-kitchen experience, even cookbooks intimidate me, since they tend to assume at least some prior knowledge of cooking and baking. Finally, I have encountered a cookbook author who started at the beginning and who explained the basics in a clear and straightforward way! She then went on to spell out fun and interesting recipes that even I could follow! I'm so excited to be able to give gifts that take time and energy, that are clearly made and given with love, and that also look and taste impressive! -- Home-spun and polished at the same time! I am going to give this book as a pre-Christmas gift, so that my friends will be able to actually use it at Christmastime! I'm thrilled with it!

Thanksgiving: Festive Recipes for the Holiday Table (Williams Sonoma Kitchen Library) Review

(More customer reviews)I am writing this the day after Thanksgiving. The first Thanksgiving for which I was entirely responsible myself. I don't cook, I'm the "order takeout" type of person. So you can imagine the jitters I had when facing the challenge of what to cook for the first Thanksgiving at my house.
Thankfully, Williams Sonoma's Thanksgiving recipe book saved the party. Not only saved it, but made it a huge success. The recipes were laughably easy and most of all very quick to make, yet everything I fixed had a definite festive touch - not your everyday homecooking at all. The book features beautiful color pictures of all dishes, along with the clearest of instructions for even the most unexperienced cook like me. There are plenty of recipes to chose from - from simple to more sophisticated, from traditional sweet potatoes and green beans to more unusual side dishes, but all are very manageable. However, not only side dishes are listed here. There are various turkey recipes to chose from, as well as desserts.
The book also addresses essentials like how to make turkey stock, gravy and cranberry sauce (I highly recommend the one with ginger and fresh grapefruit juice/zest!) and comes complete with recommendations for different menu courses from simple to elegant. Of course, there is also a section on recommended cooking and serving tools.
My summary: I have no experience whatsoever with cooking, but everything I made yesterday tasted simply delicious. Thanks, Williams Sonoma! I might be a chef after all!!! Now, if I could just decide whether my favorite were the yams with pecan nut topping, or the sauteed corn with chipotle peppers. Or maybe the Brussels sprouts with orange zest and hazelnuts, but who could forget the green bean salad with the caramelized onions and goat cheese...

Williams-Sonoma Kids in the Kitchen: Fun Food Review

(More customer reviews)I was looking through quite a few books before settleing on this one. For my two boys I knew I needed pictures at least of the dish and a clear discription. I also found that other recipe books were packed with treats and snacks what I really didn't want nor need.
There is a list of ingredients (which makes it easy to check if you have everything) and a list of tools
The recipe is then divided into steps , and again subdivided for easy reading. There is a photograph of pretty much every other step that depicts other children cooking the dish at those very steps. At the end there are suggestions for easy variations which is awesome because some kids just might like different ingredients and it stretches the 25 recipes to quite a few more.
The recipes are healthy, basic but with a great variety.So there should be something for everyone. Great buy! Great book! Definately a keeper.
