(More customer reviews)I am a fan of Holly Clegg's cookbooks and her newest offering, Too Hot in the Kitchen, is a fun collection of 200 "simple and sassy" recipes, written for a female audience.
Known as the "Queen of Quick," Holly's recipes are time, user and pantry-friendly. She appreciates the desire busy women have to create a dish the whole family will enjoy that is both convenient and healthier than eating out or bringing home drive-through fare. Some of the recipes were updated versions of those already in her other cookbooks but I found new ones to try as well such as Blackberry Chicken made with blackberry jam, red onion, and balsamic vinegar which will become a repeated dish on my family menu. The cookbook includes recipes that can easily be made ahead and frozen, as well as some vegetarian dishes. Along with the recipes are entertaining quotes such as "I love to cook with wine...sometimes I even add it to the food."
Food sections include the usual appetizers, main dishes, side dishes and desserts with clever names such as Lovin' No Oven, Table For Two, Quickies, Brunch and Munch, Sweet Temptations, Effortless Entertaining, and Passport Pleasures. There were bonus sections that came as a pleasant surprise such as "Diva Dermatology" - recipes for natural facial masks, scrubs and hair care made with everyday ingredients; "Diet Dermatology" - suggested foods and nutrients to improve skin, promote anti-aging, strengthen nails, reduce under-eye circles, etc.; and even a list of suggestions for what kind of coffee pairs best with certain foods.
Good recipes and advice aside, I also like the quality of this cookbook with the heavy glossy pages and lots of photos which is always a plus. This would be a great book to give at a bridal shower with the fun sexy (but tastefully so) theme, but women of any age who like to cook would enjoy it.
