I was at my daughter in law's house for dinner last month and she served a salad from this cookbook. It was delicious! I wanted to write down the recipe to bring home, but after looking through the cookbook I found so many good recipes that I had to buy it instead. I bought two books, one for myself and one for my daughter as an upcoming wedding gift. The recipes are well written, the ingredients are easy to find, and the soups and salads are perfect for a family. Nothing stuffy about this cookbook, just comfort and good eating.

American Vegan Kitchen Review

I know what you're thinking...do I really need ANOTHER vegan cookbook? Or, if you have none (yet), why would I purchase this book? Well, I was a tester for Tami and her recipes basically turned me into a gourmet chef. Easy to prepare with simple and no-fuss ingredients, the recipes in American Vegan Kitchen make any meal feel special and even got the meat-eating boyfriend's hearty endorsement. Favorites include the (baked!) onion rings, City Skillet tofu and potatoes, an amazing marinade for tofu skewers (coffee and liquid smoke-- need I say more? Sounds strange, but it's the closest I've had to a smoky, meaty taste in tofu), and the seitan. Now, I've tried at least 4 recipes for seitan but the ones in this book never cause any of the usual problems (gumminess, flavor, texture, what have you). The cinnamon flapjacks are great, and the yeasted waffles are my favorite of the many recipes I've tried. The roasted garlic pretzels are adorable and great for a party. The San Fran seitan wraps are great for quick weeknight meals, and taste much fancier than the ingredients would have you believe. The mustard mac and slaw turned me, a former slaw-hater (I couldn't even stand to look at the stuff) into someone who has to be restrained from making it weekly. Need I say more? Probably not. You'll love this book....and if not, well, something is wrong with your tastebuds.

Damn Good Food: 157 Recipes from Hell's Kitchen Review

Damn Good Food: 157 Recipes from Hell's Kitchen

I stumbled into Hell's Kitchen on a trip to Minneapolis during a quick trip. While eating a slice of Bison bread with the most amazing peanut butter I had ever had slathered on top.. I never wanted to leave. Lemon Ricotta pancakes, Mahnomin Porridge, Mitch's food spoke to me.. and I knew I was eating food I would never get anywhere else. Every sauce was made by hand, and the experience was glorious. I left taking a jar of peanut butter with me and I have told many others since .. If you ever get a chance to get to Minneapolis ... YOU have to eat here. I thought about the restaurant often, signed up on their website for the newsletter, and was thrilled to hear that Mitch had written a cookbook!I pre-ordered it from the restaurant, added in a jar of the to die for peanut butter.. and waited patiently for it to arrive. If you enjoy cookbooks that are more than recipes, you will love the story this book tells. There is love on every page. Love of friends, food, and love for a troubled man who has surrounded himself with a terrific support system so he succeeds in life. Ann Bauer does a wonderful job capturing the experience of Hell's Kitchen, in the writing and the photos. I was astonished to find ALL of the recipes from the menu in the pages of the book. THANK YOU! Not sure I will ever attempt some of them, but I can droll over them, and look forward to the next time I get
to Minneapolis. And I just might try to make the peanut butter myself!

The Cancer-Fighting Kitchen: Nourishing, Big-Flavor Recipes for Cancer Treatment and Recovery Review

The Cancer-Fighting Kitchen: Nourishing, Big-Flavor Recipes for Cancer Treatment and Recovery

"Cancer Fighting Kitchen" isn't just a cookbook; nor is another treatise on nutritional philosophy. It's indeed a cookbook, but so much more. Now that I've spent a couple of days with it, I know it's a nutritional arsenal with the kind of firepower that's perfect for what can seem like a tough assignment: cooking for someone going through cancer treatment. But whether you're cooking for someone who really needs to eat well in order to heal-- or you just want to understand how the food you eat influences your overall health and wellness, this is an amazing find. The recipes look and sound simple and delicious -- I can't wait to cook my way through all of them. This is the perfect follow-up to "One Bite at a Time" -- my first real friend in the kitchen when I needed a whole new way to look at cooking. I've cooked my way through it over the last three or four years, and I'm ready for the next step and this is it. Her Magic Mineral Broth is an amazing elixir that aids in whatever ails you -- I've made gallons of it, and now I'm thrilled to see two new takes on the basic recipe in this book.
This time Rebecca Katz offers us lots of easily digestible nutritional science along with recipes that look so tempting that I can almost taste and smell them just from the photos. But it is her disarming and sympathetic humor that leads you into each chapter and recipe with a little smile of recognition and a tidbit of personal insight. The Culinary Pharmacy section in her "Cancer fighting Toolkit" is worth the purchase price alone. It's a virtual encyclopedia of what we're all trying to learn about ingredients that add health-supportive magic to what we slave over in the kitchen. At a time when food TV is busily persuading us that cooking is something between a spectator sport and a reality show, this book points us back to what preparing food should be -- a loving spoonful of something special and sustaining. You don't need to be a patient or a caregiver to appreciate all that is in these pages, but if you are, this book is an amazing gift.
