(More customer reviews)I used this book last night to cook some delicious salmon and potato cakes which were straightforward to make and tasted wonderful. As an added bonus the cakes are a great way to get kids eating fish without having a too "fishy" taste.
Michelle and Allan's books are ones I have really enjoyed over the years and this one is particularly good as there are many recipes that are easy to achieve and taste fabulous. The night before I cooked a really nice sweet chilli beef stir-fry which did not require a pantry full of exotic Asian ingredients. Do not get me wrong I am a huge fan of complex Asian cookery and do it frequently but sometimes this is not what you want or in fact can be bothered to do after a hard day at work.
In having a large collection of cookbooks (1400+) as you can imagine I sometimes forget I have a book or I loose track of it for a time but when I find it again I get the joy of reading it again and doing some of the great recipes. This was a book I "lost" for a while but not anymore.
I will sometimes buy books because they look beautiful and cover a subject I am interested in but I am very unlikely to ever cook from them, The Big Fat Duck Cookbook comes to mind.
In the Kitchen: More Than 1000 Recipes for Every Day is a book that falls into another category of book I buy. One I use and refer to frequently. The book itself is well organized into useful categories including barbecue, stir-fry, roasts etc. The recipes are generally simple and in every case I have tried they worked very well and many have become family favorites.
Another part of the book I particularly enjoy is the little comments at the beginning of most recipes from one or other of the authors which gives a small insight as to why they have chosen this recipe.
Whilst the book is Australian I would think most of the recipes would translate well into other geographies.
My only complaint about the book is that it is a little awkward in is size and thickness but this is a personal thing and may not be an issue for others.
Overall a very satisfying book to use and particularly useful for the less experienced cook.
